Did you know that over 70% of our planet is covered in water?

They provide us with food and oxygen and help to regulate our climate. But our vital marine environments are under threat from pollution. At Davines, we are working hard to design packaging that is circular: lightweight, recycled or bio-based, recyclable and with minimized negative impact. Also, we remove ocean-bound plastics from coastal areas. Now we’re asking you to join us!

The water pollution challenge

  • 80% of ocean pollution is plastic waste 1
  • 6 -11 million tonnes of plastic end up in rivers, lakes, seas and oceans each year 2
  • 690 marine wildlife species are impacted by plastic pollution 3

Plastic Net-Zero products

We're working to reduce plastic impact also outside our value chain. Starting in 2021, we’ve collaborated with the social enterprise Plastic Bank: the first year, thanks to this partnership, we collected and removed 100 tons of ocean-bound plastic, and in the following years, we went even further.

Since 2022, all Davines Group products are Plastic Net-Zero: for every plastic packaged product we sell, an equivalent amount of ocean bound plastic is collected and removed from coastal areas in Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil.

We are pleased to announce that our partnership will continue through 2024, and that we will be expanding our plastic collection efforts to the coastal areas of Thailand.

FAQs

If plastic is a problem, why still use plastic?

Due to the complexity of our planet’s challenges, including climate change. Plastic allows for less material usage and less packaging weight, leading to significantly lower CO2eq emissions than other materials. Especially when plastic is recycled or bio-based.

What does eco-design mean?

The term eco-design refers to a set of principles applied to packaging design and development, which reduces its environmental impact during all the life-cycle phases, from cradle to grave. Eco-design considers many aspects such as carbon emission, use resources, pollution and more.

What does Plastic Net-Zero mean?

Plastic Net-Zero means that for every plastic packaged product Davines sells, an equivalent amount of ocean-bound plastic is collected and removed from coastal areas.

Who is Plastic Bank?

Plastic Bank is a Canadian for-profit social enterprise that builds recycling ecosystems to fight both plastic pollution in oceans and high poverty levels in developing countries.
