In the ever-evolving world of beauty, a new paradigm is emerging – one that transcends traditional notions of haircare and skincare. The era of Regenerative Beauty and Farming is a holistic approach championed by brands who hope to secure a more sustainable future.
In this blog, we will delve into the essence of regenerative beauty, exploring what it means in the context of hair and skin care products, and what Davines is doing to pave the way in this transformative movement.
What Is Regenerative Beauty?
To understand the concept of regenerative beauty, we must first grasp the meaning of "regenerative" when applying it to the beauty industry.
The term regenerative beauty has a dual meaning. One focuses on the regenerative nature of products, i.e. the renewal of hair health and how best to achieve this through products.
The other, wider use of the term ‘regenerative beauty’ isn’t talking about how effective a particular beauty product is. Rather, it focuses on how the business producing those products can do so in a way that not only causes less harm to the environment but actually helps to replenish and restore what it takes away from it.
Davines looks at how its products are made and delivered and adopts policies that ensure sustainability, ethical practices and environmental concerns are addressed throughout our supply chain.

Many organic beauty products use the power of plants to deliver exceptional results, and our haircare uses the same methodology. By considering the journey of extracting and processing these ingredients from soil to bottle, we can obtain a true picture of the impact of product creation and strive to make this as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.
Regenerative organic agriculture is based on a set of key principles which include:
By working with regenerative farmers and looking internally to integrate regenerative farming practices, Davines products are helping to reverse climate change, nurture biodiversity, and revitalise economies.
Why Choose Regenerative Organic Agriculture?
The climate crisis has highlighted the importance of the relationship between humans and the planet. Human actions have led to the release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases, resulting in global warming and climate change. The severe impacts, including floods, heatwaves, desertification, and biodiversity loss, are becoming increasingly apparent. Despite this, we persist in disrupting the natural balance with our lifestyle choices.
At Davines, we have embraced regenerative agriculture as our approach to addressing these issues in the beauty industry.
Regenerative practices can help using less energy and contribute to lower carbon emissions, plus soils have the ability to store carbon CO2 from the atmosphere.
Davines Group started its journey towards regeneration in 2021 when it announced its partnership with Rodale Institute, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit dedicated to research and education around regenerative organic agriculture. Through the collaboration, Davines Group turned 17 hectares of its headquarters in Parma, Italy, into the European Regenerative Centre (EROC), the first research and education centre in Europe focusing on regenerative agriculture with an aim to assess and improve soil quality.
In 2021, we launched the first edition of We Sustain Beauty, a global socio-environmental campaign to take climate action through regenerative organic agriculture.
Improved Soil Health
Healthy soil is the starting point for a range of ecosystem services, from carbon sequestration to food production. At the centre, a team of agronomy research experts collect samples, measure the nutrient density of several plant varieties grown across a multitude of experimental plots, and share our methods through training and outreach programs.
Working with regenerative farmers will ensure that soil health improves and that the land is not overworked. Numerous studies focus on regenerative agricultural practices and their positive impact on soil health. Research in this area often highlights how regenerative farming methods, such as cover cropping, crop rotation, and minimal tillage, contribute to increased soil organic matter, enhanced biodiversity, and improved water retention.
Better Quality Products
Studies demonstrate that sustainableand regenerative beauty practices in the beauty industry can have a wide range of positive effects, including producing better quality and more effective products. Research has indicated that natural and ethically sourced ingredients can have a positive impact on the quality and performance of haircare and skincare products.
Boosting Biodiversity and Conservation
Research emphasises the importance of biodiversity in agricultural systems. Regenerative beauty involves sourcing ingredients ethically and sustainably, which may contribute to the preservation of diverse ecosystems.
Davines and Biodiversity
Davines has worked with Fondazione Slow Food per la Biodiversità Onlus [Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity] since 2014, by supporting its Slow Food Presidia, projects that involve producers from all over the world in order to protect traditional, local farming practices that risk extinction, promote specific territories and rekindle historical professions and processing techniques.
Davines' Essential Haircare line is formulated using active ingredients from nine Italian Slow Food Presidia, including the Salina caper, Paceco Cartucciaru melon, Torre Guaceto Fiaschetto tomato and Noto almond. Learn more.
